WATERisLIFE Founder Ken and his wife, Nita, have been devoted to serving children since college, as educators and also as mission partners. After traveling to the Philippines and China, Ken found himself walking away from the security of a weekly paycheck and retirement benefits when he and Nita began Hearts and Hands International, an organization committed to helping at-risk children internationally. Ken and Nita have been traveling, inspiring and encouraging each other to serve, working at orphanages in Asia, South America and Africa. While working in an orphanage in northern Kenya/southern Sudan, Ken realized a true water need: Children were drinking water that came from contaminated wells, retention ponds and other unhealthy sources. After, WATERisLIFE was conceptualized and put into action. Inspired by his backpacking days, Ken began working with a water purification factory, and the WATERisLIFE portable straw filters became the cusp of WATERisLIFE to bring clean water to children, their schools and villages in 33 countries worldwide. Ken and Nita have two grown daughters and, recently, a son-in-law who shares their love of Asian food and travel.

In October 2013 Sean Chai joined a WATERisLIFE Field Trip. His worked focused on providing clean drinking water for children at an orphanage in Kenya. This WiL Field Trip filled Sean with joy and happiness that went far beyond his professional accomplishments. Sean was dramatically moved by the children’s innocence and angelical smiles as they drank the clean water. He calls the children he met on the journey his lovely angels. At that time of his trip Sean and his wife were expecting a baby. In the spring shortly after his Kenya work, he and his lovely wife were blessed with a huge surprise – twin girls. Each time Sean holds his beautiful daughters in his arms, he thinks of the angelical smiles of the children in Kenya. Sean works in his country of China where many children in the remote countryside are threatened by unclean drinking water. He works to share love and happiness with them – as well as working to bring clean water to so many. Sean is currently the Founder of a company working in the healthcare industry providing hospitals with cutting edge technology, and most recently resigned as the VP of Toshiba Medical. Sean and his family are looking forward to relocating to San Francisco this fall.
