Family Embarks on a Coast 2 Coast Journey for WaterIsLife.com to Raise Awareness and Provide A Pure Water Solution for Children in Kenya.
(Edmond, OK) – www.waterislife.com announces a team – an inspired family of four from Phoenix, Arizona – traveling from San Francisco to Maine to raise awareness and the much needed funds to supply 20,000 water filters for distribution to children in Kenya this coming November. The Bender Family departs on their Coast 2 Coast Journey for WaterIsLife.com on Monday, August 3rd from San Francisco and travel by RV to Portland, Maine.
The Coast 2 Coast Journey will include presentations, meetings and media visits from San Francisco to Park City, Chicago, Detroit, Washington D.C. Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Portland, Maine, Indianapolis, Oklahoma City, and Albuquerque – sharing this pure water solution with many.
The filters, portable straws that guarantee pure and safe drinking water, will effect children’s education, health and welfare, and has already drastically transformed several communities.
These filters will go to the villages of Mji wa Huruma (City of Pity), a slum area outside of Nairobi, and Chiga Village in Kisumu, as well as other nearby communities. Children in these communities who are most vulnerable to water-borne diseases will receive the filters, while efforts to provide a more permanent, sustainable clean water source is put into effect. In addition to dispersing the filters and supplying a permanent water source, www.waterislife.com also provides hygiene training in each community.
“The average rural household in Africa spends around 1/4 of their day collecting water instead of working, learning a trade or getting an education. I can confirm that it uses an incredible amount of energy each day – worrying, planning and hauling the water.” said Kristine Bender, upon her return from a Kenya filter distribution trip earlier this year.
“While in Kenya, I met many of these children in need of clean water. Each little one [has] a face, a name, a smile. What they hide behind those smiles is the basic need to have a clean water source to keep them from being sick – and some with compromised immune systems – from dying. They may not be able to change their situation – but we can.”
Each year over 2 million people die of waterborne diseases worldwide. Most — more than 5000 per day — are children.
