What is the waterislife.com water filter? The filter is a portable water purifier, which can be used in any water source to provide clean and safe drinking water.
Can I buy a filter for me? The short answer, no. Here is why. In the US you and I can go to any backpacking or sporting good store and buy a variety of filtering options. The Water Is Life filters are designed for people who do not have the access, like we do in the US. Also, we do not want to have to hire sales, marketing, distribution, warehousing for US distribution. Everyone who “works” for WIL is a volunteer. Who needs this filter? The weakest members of communities are the most vulnerable; every day water-related diseases claim the lives of 5000 children under the age of five. Millions are stricken with preventable diseases because of the lack of clean water. This device hangs around the neck of a child, and can provide them the needed clean water to survive.
How is the filter made? The filter is made from durable plastic approx 10 inches in length and 1 inch in diameter. The internal components include membranes, iodized crystals and active carbon, which removes the iodide taste and medium-sized bacteria and is effective against waterborne bacteria and viruses such as Typhoid, Cholera, E-Coli, Dysentery and Diarrhea. The 2-stage particle filtration filters particles from 125 micron down to minimal 15 micron.
How is the filter used? Step Brothers the movie The filter acts as a straw – the user places the end of the filter into the water source and sucks as they would on a regular straw. The water flows through the filtration components and clean water is then delivered into the mouth. It is recommend that the first sip of water be spit out.
How long does the filter last? The filter cleanses a minimum of 800 liters of water, calculated approximately on a consumption 2-3 liters of water per day. As a comparison, the average child in Africa receives 8 oz. of water per day. The filter on average will last one year, and will clog internally when it is no longer effective.
What is the plan once the filters stop working? The filters are part of a crawl, walk, run strategy. The filters are for intervening and providing emergency filtration. When making a donation is that donation tax deductible? Yes, your donation is tax deductible. Waterislife.com Inc. is a 501 (3) C public charity, so all donations are tax deductible. 100% of the funds provided go to the purchase of filters and providing a sustainable water solution for Waterislife.com partnership communities. How much of my donation goes to the children? 100% of all donations go directly to purchasing water filters. The current project goal is 20,000 water filters to be distributed in August 2009. Each $10 donation saves the life of a child for one year.
