The Girl Scouts of America and WATERisLIFE

November 19, 2020

Since learning that lack of clean water access affects 1 in 9 people, and finding out that the average woman or girl without clean water must walk an average of 3.7 miles just to get water, I have been passionate about increasing access to clean water. For my Girl Scout Gold Award project, I decided to increase awareness of this issue by educating members of my community. Throughout my project, I taught younger Girl Scouts how lack of clean water harms girls, created educational materials to help people learn about this issue in a fun and interactive way, and hosted virtual and in-person events challenging participants to do a 3.7 mile "water walk." On my website, I have a presentation with statistics, videos, and questions, a water walk video where I take viewers through their own water walk, and more information to inform and educate visitors about this issue and ways they can help. I also raised money to purchase straw filters through Water is Life, and I encourage anyone who wants to make a difference to consider making a donation to help Water is Life bring water to those in need. Thanks to WATERisLIFE and Ken Surrite for helping me create an educational and effective project and I hope you will check out my website!

Thank you!
